Ok, so this is what it felt like...

It was raining when we left Toronto; the rain drops started sliding faster and faster as we prepared for take off from Pearson International Airport. Through the dark angry clouds and towards the sun... Four hours later we were in paradise. The Paradise turned out to be very hot and sticky, 35 degrees in the shade, UV index off the scale. On the way to the hotel, I was able to see through the bus window what real Dominicans live like. It was exotic, but sad existence: shabby old houses, mostly without windows, some roofs made of palm trees, old taverns and shops, and little kids running by. Finally we arrived to the resort, which was totally the opposite of the real life outside of it.
I've gone snorkeling once before, in a lake. So I had no idea what it would be like to see the tropical fish hand stretch away from you, and to touch the yellow coral. The little Nemos turned out to be the most friendly fish of all, they ate almost out of our hands and did not hurry away to hide in the reef; instead they floated next to us almost as curious as we were waiting for more food to arrive.
We also went horseback riding through the plantations and the local villages, and I believe this was, by far, the highlight of my trip... To some this may seem like a horrible experience, yet after the fact I was very excited and "energized". Riding through the country-side I saw some ropes handing across the road. So instead of ducking my head to avoid touching them, like most other people did, I lifted my hand and touched the rope, ah... correction the exposed electrical wire and somehow was just handing right in front of me. The next few moments were right out of the movie where someone gets electrocuted. I couldn't let go of the rope, my body shook a few times very softly, everything became black, and my poor horse, being electrocuted herself, figured it was time to let me go and kicked me off and onto the ground ( i think she kinda saved me though). And what do I get for it? A tiny bruise on my butt and an awesome experience. Fine, I admit, it was really scary, especially afterwards, when I realized what could have happened. The whole group, including the Spanish-speaking-only guide were all over me. I had no idea what he was saying, but from his gesturing around his neck guessed that his head would come off if anything would happen to one of us. Despite the protesting, I got back on my horse, which for some reason was no longer as friendly and obedient, and continued through the hot muggy surroundings of the Dominican country-side.

the end
